Yeah I agree. They may be acting homosexual, but they are really not wearing womans clothes.

btw, aren't the 'making of' movies great?? (apart from Like Yesterday, which is a little samey). I give those a big fat 10 also

Got mine today (well, arrived yesterday) giving a first spin now Very Happy

It killed me to break the yellow seal on the CD, I was seriously debating whether to download it lossless and keep my copy unopened, but I wanted to see inside it, so!.......

Blackout and Black Dark Night both seem like song that could have been on I Killed My Heart which is my least favorite album. Both songs are OK but they seem more Heavenly the Brilliant Green - 7

I'm sick of this place - 8

Talk to Me - I love the beat. Overall a great song. 9

Blue Daisy - This song has a great hook, and has the classic Brilliant Green Sound. The orchestration fits perfectly with Tommy's Voice and guitar. 10

Break Free - This song is so F------Good. The best song on the album and it has quickly become one my favorite Brilliant Green Song. 10

Going Underground - Another classic sounding Brilliant Green Song. Is it just me, but does the beginning sound a little bit like Brownie? Still a great song. 9

Whirlwind -8

Spring Gate Another song with a good hook -8

Song(2) I wish Tommy wouldn't do covers. "I Only Want to Be with You" is the only time I think she really pulls it off. The woowhos just don't work for me.
If she sang them lower it would be a lot better. 6

I Just Can't Breathe - The video is boring but the song is still great - 9

Like Yesterday - 9

Blue Sunrise - A quiet but really pretty song - 10

Overall score - 104 I wasn't so thrilled with "I Killed My Heart" and I was kind of scared to see where Tommy was going, but when I first heard Blue Daisy my faith in Tommy was restored. All in all this album continues in this direction and is really good.

Wow, that just shows how people opinions can differ. I am completeley the opposite of that. Thats her worst cover in my opinion. To me, the last 3 are superb. "All Through The Night" was a real gem, and "All Day and All of the Night" and "Song 2" are uber fun covers that I just can't get enough of. All 3 of them get a volume boost when they come on my ipod.

I don't mind Tommy doing the odd cover, aslong as she does plenty of new original songs at the same time.

Wow, I love "Can't take my eyes off of you" hahaha...

But my favorite covers are "SINCE YESTERDAY" and "I'm in the mood for dancing", I think on those cases her versions are as good as or even better than the originals.

I really think TALK TO ME should've been a single. It is a little different to the other singles, and would have made a great/fun video, like CALL MY NAME was.

01 "BLACKOUT" Neutral
02 "BLACK DARK NIGHT" Smile
03 "I'm sick of this place" Smile
04 "Talk to me" Smile
05 "Blue Daisy" Smile
06 "Break Free" Smile
07 "Going underground" Smile
08 "WHIRLWIND" Smile
09 "Spring Gate" Smile
10 "SONG 2" Mad
11 "I Just Can't Breathe..." Very Happy
12 "Like Yesterday" Smile
13 "BLUE SUNRISE" Very Happy

I do not like to give songs a number, so I gave each song a smiley face instead.

There are many good songs, but there are only two songs that gives me a feeling of joy and sorrow.
I Just Can't Breathe... and BLUE SUNRISE put my feelings out of play. I do not know if I should cry or laugh.

I never liked SONG 2, and the brilliant green's version isn't any better.

BLACKOUT is just BLACKOUT, nothing more.

The album in general is good, but it's all too much heavenly6. I miss the green sound!

I give the album at nice smile Smile

Post by Anunnunie Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:58 pm

I know I'm also so late on this! I needed time to really take in this album (and then some traveling/job searching stuff got in the way!) but here it is ... (hides)

Blackout - A little Heavenly for me, but an appropriate-at-best opening song - 6
Black Dark Night - It also reminds me of I KILL MY HEART but with a definite buriguri slant to it. Upgrade! - 8
I'm sick of this place - I do like the energy in this song. A nice solid song - 7
Talk to Me - Fun at first but a little too repetitive to stand out - 6
Blue Daisy - I do like this song but I think it would song better stripped away; a little simpler on instrumentation - 6
Break Free - I was surprised when this came on, and I love it. I miss this beautifully understated, melancholy side of the brilliant green! - 9
Going Underground - Although nothing really stands out from this solid song, I find myself humming it out of nowhere. It's catchy! - 7
Whirlwind - I think this should have been a single - I love it! It reminds me of how "hidoi ame" stood out (although this is more pop) but it still has that same amazing kick to it. - 10
Spring Gate - This was one of my favorite songs from the past 3 singles and it still is - I love the guitar solo in this - 9
Song 2 - As much as I like hearing the brilliant green cover material, I don't reallly approve of it as album material. I have a love/hate relationship with this song. - 5
I just can't Breathe.. - This song never caught me as much as their previous singles leading up to this album. I just can't put my finger on it ... - 5
Like Yesterday - Now, in contrast to the rest of the album, I really appreciate how this song was "set up" and its overall production - 8
Blue Sunrise - I always like how buriguri ends their albums and this is no exception - although it does not live up to their previous album finishers; it feels more like a middle-of-the-album track to me - 8

After the previews, I have to admit: I was a little disappointed with this album. It was more Heavenly than buriguri, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong: I'm deliriously happy the brilliant green is still making music and this new album is out but in retrospect, it doesn't live up to their previous albums. It seems to be missing some of that Brit-rock sound they have/used to have.

I loved the middle of this album - from BREAK FREE to SPRING GATE was on repeat constantly in my car the past few weeks. I think my stand out favorites are: Break Free & Whirlwind.

I know I might sound too critical or harsh but it's only because I respect the brilliant green so much as musicians and hold them to such high standards. So, I hope I don't upset anyone with my opinion of this album. Embarassed

Good review Anunnunie, I do kind of agree with you, but I like the song a little more than you maybe. I think te lines between Th6 and TBG have become a little blurred (no Song 2 pun intended).

true, it sounds more like TH6 than the previous TBG albums. The departure of Ryo is a great loss. He's a fantastic player and an excellent musician. Their new stuff is more basic.

I agree that a few songs sound morve heavenlyish, and I cannot argue with what else you say. The albums main fault was the missing Matsui magic.
