Tommy in general is my favorite, then Aqua, then In This Moment, or OT3P, or The Birthday Massacre, or Flyleaf. Hmm, too hard to decide.

But to answer the question, YES! Tommy is my favorite!
(And my favorite of Tommy is heavenly6)

3. PUFFY

the brilliant green are on 6. and Tommy february6 on 13. No Tommy heavenly6 on the list yet.

Oh yes, of course.

TBG I would actually say I liked equally to The Beatles. Although the fact that buriguri are happening in my lifetime just pushes them to number 1!

It's funny that you bring up the Beatles, Sneakglove. Personally, I can't stand the Beatles, but I love TBG. I think that's so weird.

Hmm, it is. A lot of people hate The Beatles because everybody is supposed to love them. Some people have only heard 75% of The Beatles songs, and they are the songs that get played over and over again. You have to delve a little deeper to discover some real gems, but hey, I love most of their songs, so I am biased. Strange also as TBG are quite obviously influenced by The Beatles, as most Alt.rock bands are.

It also depends why you like buriguri? Do you like them because you like Japanese music? Or do you like them because they fit into your prefered musical genre? I mean some people like both Koda Kumi and TBG despite their sounds being 100% different, just because they are a fan of Japanese music.I like TBG and other Japanese bands like Noodles and Advantage Lucy because they fit in with the Indie Rock genre. I hate most Jpop and Japanese Beyonce wannabies like Hamsaki and Kumi etc etc despite being an Otaku Final Fantasy/Anime/Japonphile also.

Heavenly6 and Imogen Heap tie for first. Funny things is that the rest of my top 10 favorite artists (well recently) have been anything but the type of music that Heavenly is. I mostly listen to electronica, and alternative stuff.

It's not necessarily because everyone likes them that I dislike them (which is a good enough reason; I tend to prefer the less mainstream things), but it's because the Beatles' and TBG's sound differs quite a bit, at least to my ears. I am biased as well, the only Beatles songs I've heard are the ones that are played over and over, and a few that my friends have had me listen to. Not to be offensive, but the vocals in the Beatles sound somewhat... weaker? (that's not the word, but I can't think of anything else that fits my opinion) than TBG's. I prefer Tommy's strong lead vocals and the variation in her voice. I also like the fact that even though the Beatles, among others, were a strong influence in TBG, that they simply are not the Beatles. I feel like the band uses their influences to create their own sound, something totally different, yet you still know where the roots are. I feel like they go the extra mile not to copy the sound of the Beatles. They have their own style and their own flair, and that's how I like it.

To answer your question more specifically; I like Tommy because I like her sound and because I listen primarily to Japanese music. When I discovered her I was listening to mostly American mainstream pop-rock bands, and then I came across Tommy Heavenly6. The process of liking only pop-rock to liking a smoother indie-style took a while. I was never a fan of English rock, either. Or American 60's/70's rock. TBG's cover of the Kinks is a good song, but still, the style is not my favorite.

I also dislike Hamasaki and Koda. Neutral

Poor Ayu and Kumi-chan hahaha
I love Kumi, and Ayu's nice too, it's a completely different kind of pop but I love it too...

I'm usually in love with music, and I like to have songs to fill all of my emotions, from an angry, or sad to a dancing, happy mood

I agree with you winksniper, TBG have a lot of obvious influences but never sound like any other band, and thats whats so great about them. The closest they came to sounding like another song to me was "There Will Be Love There", which bore a very slight resemblence to Oasis's "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "MISTER MOON" and "Rise and Shine" by The Cardigans are easy to compare too.

Ok, everybody else seems to have done this, so I will join in -

Top Bands

1. The Brilliant green
= The Beatles
2. Oasis
= Advantage Lucy
3. Ride

Top Solo Artists

1. Tommy heavenly/february
2. Shiina Ringo
3. Nana Kitade

It's nothing personal, it is just that kind of music and raunchy music video pollutes the UK charts and is rammed down our throat 24 hours a day.

the brilliant green fell from my Top 3 some time ago - maybe last year? I sing their songs around the house sometimes but, I don't listen to them or Tommy's solo work anymore.

I love Koda Kumi's voice, moreso her speaking voice. I really do! I like to hear her, I have one of her best albums [a compilation of her songs]. I haven't kept up with her though, dunno what she's doing nowadays so much although I've given her recent songs a little listen to. =)

Not all the videos and songs they produce are raunchy but.. Koda's more recent one ¬_¬ "[8] Lick my lollipop...", ergh. Songs about sweets in a sexual context are never good to me. I don't listen to radio stations that play music nor watch music videos on TV (or keep track of the charts...), so I am not as exposed to such things. Ha ha! Oh and I don't like Beyonce but I loved~ Destiny's Child. Ah, and TLC.. all those girl groups back in the day. Ha ha! They were not raunchy or particularly sexy. I mean, if you watch Salt n' Pepa's video with En Vogue (What a Man, or whatever the song's called), the women are quite sexy in it but.. quite scary/fierce as well as they're rapping. HAHA

I love Radio 1 covers hahaha

jazzbeans wrote:Not all the videos and songs they produce are raunchy but.. Koda's more recent one ¬_¬ "[8] Lick my lollipop...", ergh.

Actually, the lyrics to this song are pretty feminist, she's saying she won't let stupid guys "lick her lollipop" cuz they're always mistreating ladies and stuff...
I have no problems with songs talking about sex, but this one is not the case.
What I like about Kumi Koda is that she can sing really whore songs, but she also can sing powerful pop and sweet ballads...

We all have sex and have dirty minds sometimes... and sometimes we are sweet as a strawberry cream soda pop... Why do we have to choose? Let's listen to all of it without guilt =D
