Here there are some spanish indie singers/bands that I use to listen in my free time ^^ I can certainly say that spanish indie music is the only thing spanish music industry has given for good to our country, the rest of music is absolutely horrible.

Russian Red

- They don't believe -

- Nice thick feathers -

- Hawai -

I went to this concert T^T I cried a lot! It was sooo beautiful! The 2nd video I posted is the end of the concert. The concert was already finished but then Lourdes came back and started to sing alone without microphone, only with a little ukelele (you can hear her say "Los del fondo no sé si me vais a oir, pero lo voy a intentar" at the beginning, that means "I don't know if the ones who are at the back will be able to hear me, but I'll try") The members of the band came suddenly and they started to play a simple melody but full of feeling. Everyone was so quiet and so moved... it was the best concert of my life.

They all work for me... Some you have to click twice to watch them directly from youtube, but that's all. No message about copyright o.o

Now I want to introduce to you some fantastic catalan artists (from Catalonia, the region of Spain where I live). The language it's different from spanish although they have some words in common ^^ (for those who didn't know).

Usually catalan songs talk about quotidian facts and the good or the bad things about that, about the people around you that usually make weird things that make you feel special. Don't know how to describe that, it's just that you feel them really close to you.

Some of the artists posted above are catalan in fact (Love of lesbian, Sidonie & Dorian) but they sing in spanish ^^

Now here there are some of the most famous catalan bands from all times:

SAU - Boig per tu (Crazy for you)
One of the most famous catalan bands of all the time (you may have noticed that the recording it's from 1993...) The singer died really young because of drugs... such a pity... He's buried in my town, and many people from all around catalonia come here every year the day he died to remember him. Also, as a curiosity, he used to spend summer in my town and he was a close friend of my mum when they were children ^^

Els pets - Bon Día (Good day, it's also used as a greeting in the morning ^^)

Els pets - Soroll (Noise) Talks about consumism, the chorus says "I can hear the song that I loved more than anything in the world, but now they want it to sell, and it sounds like noise to me"

Lax'n'busto - Llença't (umm.. it's like "throw yourself", it's got the sense of "do it!!", like for example you "llançes" yourself to say your true feelings to a girl/boy, or to make a big decision in your life...)

Sopa de Cabra - L'Empordà (it's the region where I live ^^ you can be sure that if this song sounds anywhere in our region everybody will start singing to it like madly, because we feel really identified with this song.) A very old one too, btw.

These are actual singers, as some of these bands actually disbanded or the singers have a career in solitary:

Gerard Quintana - Barcelona en Colors (Barcelona in colours) I recommend you to read the lyrics XDD Describes Barcelona almost perfectly! This is the old singer of "Sopa de Cabra"

Cesk Freixas - La petita rambla del Poble Sec (The little rambla of the Poble Sec) It reminds me my life in the flat in Barcelona...

Anna Roig i l'ombre de ton chien - Je t'aime (it's french, Anna Roig and the shadow of your dog - I love you) The greatest band I discovered recently! A mixture of catalan+french!! Some of their songs are in french and some in catalan, or they mix them all in a song as this one ^^

Beth - Tots els botons (All of the buttons) She started singing in a contest kind of Factor-X called "Operación triunfo", but she only released an album and waited till its contract with the company was over to release her own songs and stuff. Really worth it, I must say.

Looking forward to hear your opinion! ^^

Anna Roig i l'ombre de ton chien - Je t'aime

That is a very interesting video. The singers voice is kinda of hypnotic. The music suits her voice.

Just to keep this a bit updated, some new releases of the bands/singers listed above:

Zahara:

Preguntale al polvo- (Ask to the dust, although Polvo is also a way to talk about sex, I don't know which of the meanings is she using)

Leñador y la mujer América (The Woodcutter and the America Woman) She did this to criticize the typical american stories about the superhero saving the girl, but being the girl the one who's strong here. The pv was made as a trailer, but the movie doesn't really exist.

Vetusta Morla:

Lo que te hace grande - (Those things that make you bigger, by meaning those things that make you grow up and make you feel proud, intelligent, and overall, a better person).

Russian Red:

The sun, the trees

I hate you but I love you (The most remarkable thing about those vids, is that they are filmed in 16mm cinema film, which is rarely used nowadays. Oh! And this last one was filmed near of my hometown, in Cadaqués, just a few kilometers from the house where Dalí used to live.

Now the catalan ones:

Anna Roig i l'Ombre de Ton Chien:

Bigoti Vermell - (Red moustache)

Petons entre camions - (Kisses between the trucks)

There is a couple of new catalan bands that I'd like to introduce, and they are Manel and Els amics de les arts ^^

Manel:
They are an indie catalan band that it's being really surprising to the people and the medias coz, although they speak in Catalan and there's not too much people outside Catalonia that is able to speak it, they are getting famous not only out from Catalonia, but also out from Spain and around the world.

Aniversari (Birthday) If you can you should read the lyrics, because they are beautiful.

Al mar (Into the sea or To the sea)

Gent normal (A Catalan version for the "Common people" from Pulp) Filmed in the "Boqueria" market in Barcelona.

Els amics de les arts:

La merda se'ns menja (This is a catalan expression that literally says "The shit is eating us", and we say it when a place is just so dirty that it seems that dirt is all around, "eating" you) It talks about Barcelona and all the contamination, and they tell a girl that she'd better want to go to a place where "at night, there's the night" (meaning that the sky is red at night because of contamination).

Jean-Luc (This a story of a boy who meets a girl, they go home, he expected to have a wild sex night, but nothing happens and he ends up talking to a poster of Jean Luc Goddard in the wall, telling him his story.)

Les meves ex i tu - (All my exgirlfriends and you)

This is an advert for Estrella Damm, a Catalan beer, and it talks about all the good things that we have from Catalonia. You can watch it with english subtitles if you want. Nearly made me cry :')
